Tag Heuer Monaco Vintage Chronograph reissue‎

Luxury watch maker TAG Heuer has unveiled a special re-release of one of their vintage models, the Monaco Vintage Chronograph.

Originally released in 1973, the model comes on the heels of a 40th anniversary Monaco model.

According to Calibre11.com, the Monaco Vintage is “basically a grey version of the 40th Anniversary Monaco released last year, with two important differences.

Firstly, the case of the Monaco Vintage is finished in a subtle charcoal stainless steel and secondly, the Monaco Vintage will sell for almost half the price.”

The watch is limited to 1,860 pieces with a suggested retail price of $5,200 USD.

Breguet Réveil Musical Watch

Based on the new Breguet Caliber 777 movement incorporating a silicon escapement and a Breguet balance-spring, the new Breguet Reveil Musical Watch houses a fabulous patented musical mechanism, a disc with pins rather than a typical music box cylinder mechanism. A disc carrying the pins replaces the traditional music-box cylinder and alternately acts on the 15 metal teeth of the comb. A metallic glass membrane engine-turned by hand enriches this exceptional mechanism and serves to amplify the frequencies required to emit the tune, as well as guaranteeing water resistance.

The watch will play a 20-25 second musical tune either at its owner’s pleasure, via a push piece positioned at 10 o’clock, or at any given time via a pre-set alarm function. The dial performs a complete turn during the 20 to 25 seconds while the tune is being played. A power reserve display at 3 o’clock indicates whether or not the watch has the energy to play the tune, and in fact will not make music without enough stored energy to enable the the musical to be played in its entirety.

Ralph Lauren Sporting Watch

The new Ralph Lauren Sporting Watch draws its inspirations from Ralph Lauren’s antique car, the 1938 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic coupe.  The watch’s aesthetics combine the luxurious wood finish of the Bugatti with a matte black dial, all of which are reminiscent of the car’s interior.

Arabic numerals for increased legibility, arrow-shaped hour and minute hands, as well as an elm burl frame, are all among the highlights of the new product.

Baume & Mercier Capeland Flyback Chronograph

January 2011

The new Baume & Mercier Capeland Flyback Chronograph is a modern re-interpretation of the classic monopusher produced by the brand in 1948.

The 42mm red gold or stainless steel case surrounds the intricately detailed dial that contributes to the Capeland’s distinguished presence.

The blue (or gold) “Breguet-style” hands, dark brown (or black) alligator strap and sapphire-crystal display back add to the overall aesthetic.

Hublot €2 million Big Bang watch

Swiss watchmaker Hublot has launched a new diamond-covered 18k white gold Big Bang tourbillon watch, which costs a whopping €2 million ($2.8 million).

The new Hublot Big Bang Watch set in 18 carat gold with a gold Big Bang tourbillion comes studded with as many as 142 carats worth of baguette diamonds, which covers the case, dial, and bracelet.

A total of 637 baguette diamonds along with one rose cut diamond on the crown dress up this masterpiece.

More than 13,000 hours were needed to cut the stones (with 45 gemcutters working non-stop for 1 month), which then took 2,000 hours to set.

The watch comes with a caliber HUB 6003 manually wound tourbillon movement with off-centred time display.

Glashütte Original Senator Perpetual Calendar

30 March 2011

Glashütte Original released a very nice and legible Perpetual Calendar in its flagship Senator collection. The reference 100-02-25-05-04 features a red gold case which pairs nicely against the black-dial with white Arabic numerals.

The moon phase disc also fits onto the dial nicely and is adorned with silver stars and a radiant silver moon. A discreet leap year display presents a red dot to indicate a leap year, followed by white, black and yellow dots for successive years.

The heart of the Senator Perpetual Calendar, easily visible through the sapphire glass mounted in the case back, is the Glashütte Original Caliber 100-02.

The Cal 100-02 has signature Glashütte touches such as the three-quarter plate with Glashütte ribbing, the skeletonized rotor with 21-ct gold oscillation weight, twin spring barrels and swan-neck fine adjustment.

Glashütte Original is also quick to point out that this particular model is equipped with a reset mechanism which allows for easy synchronization of the second hand with a time standard — unlike other reset mechanisms, the second hand is connected neither to the winding stem nor the crown.

As a result, when the crown is pulled out, the balance remains in oscillation and the movement continues to run, significantly reducing material stress.

Pressing a separate button on the side of the case at 8 o’clock activates the reset mechanism.
