Caroline de Peyrecave believes working from life is vital in representational art because it demands the utmost level of skill and the relationship that develops between artist and subject leads to a more profound and significant final image. Caroline’s work and methods are entirely traditional, however her artistic vision is very much her own.

Sittings

For a charcoal head and shoulders 2-4 sittings are required, depending on the level of finish desired. For a painted head and shoulders about 5 sittings are required. A sitting lasts roughly 3 hours with regular breaks. This length of time for sittings is very important for capturing depth, the true character and life of the sitter.

Caroline prefers to work in her studio, but will travel and work on site provided there is enough natural light available.

Prices

A charcoal head and shoulders is £850 and an oil portrait is from £1400. Prices may vary depending on the size and complexity of the composition.

A deposit is required once a commission has been arranged. This is about a quarter of the total price.
